Terms and Conditions

 

1 What do I need to join?

1.1 All drivers must complete a familiarisation session with one of the Marine Club staff

1.2 All drivers are required to hold an RYA Level 2 powerboat certificate. 

1.3 A member may nominate up to 3 other members of immediate family as named drivers who must also hold a L2 powerboat certificate and have completed a familiarization day.

 

2 What will it cost?

 2.1 2008 Membership is £2600

 2.2 An RYA Level 2 certificate can be gained after completing a two day training course held at any RYA recognised centre which we can arrange for you.

 2.3 Familiarisation sessions are £170 for up to 4 drivers. This will cover rules, operational areas and an introduction to the boats.  No points will be deducted for this day.

 2.4 All charges exclude the cost of fuel which will be obtainable from a central facility at Plas Coch Holiday Home Park and will be charged at pump rates. 

           

3 How many days do I get?

3.1 The club will be open from Easter weekend to the end of September

3.2 Each member will receive an allocation of 26 points which can be spent in the following ways:

3.3 Fair Play Policy

In order to allow all members a fair allocation of days we are offering the following use of points upon becoming a member. A member may not book any more than this number of point days at the start of the season:

3.4 There is no obligation to book all available points in one go. At certain times, members will be sent an e-mail with unused availability which they will then be able to book

3.5 Extra days are available in the event a member has used their annual allocation of points. These will be charged at £100 per point with a £50 processing fee per extension.

3.6 Unused points cannot be carried forward into the next year of membership.

 

4 How does my day work?

4.1 The boat will be handed over at the start of the day and received by the boat master at the end. Just as with a hire car, any damage or missing items will be brought to the attention of the member and charged appropriately.

4.2 The boats will be available to launch from 10.00 and must be returned by 17.00.

4.3 Any boats booked will be taken to the slipway area at the start of the day. When you are ready the boat will be launched for you.

4.4 The boat master will refuel the boats to the top every night. A record will be taken to reception every evening for processing. You will then be charged by Plas Coch direct for fuel used at pump rates.

 

5 Where can I go in a day?

 5.1 The operational area is limited by MCA Category D waters stated as being “Within the Menai Straits from a line joining Llanddwyn Island Light to Dinas Dinlleu and lines joining the south end of Puffin Island to Trwyn Du Point and Llanfairfechan Railway Station”. Basically, Llandwyn Island to the West and Puffin Island to the East. Beyond this area you are not insured and are in breach of club rules. Within this area you are required to remain within the marked navigational channels as maintained by Caernarfon Harbour Trust. These can change at any

time and it is your responsibility to be aware of these channels and be informed of any changes. Please ask if you are unsure.

 

6  I’ve got the boat but what about toys?

6.1 The Marine Club has a wide range of water sports toys available to rent.      The daily rental prices (including ropes) are:

If you wish to use your own tow toys this is at your own discretion

Whilst towing inflatable water sports toys:-

6.2 A competent and experienced observer must be on board the vessel at all times when persons are being towed.

6.3 All drivers adhere to the manufacturers recommended towing speeds.

6.4 All riders must be competent swimmers and be over 6 years of age.  Riders aged between 6 and 10 years must be accompanied on inflatable water sports toys by a responsible adult.

6.5 All riders must wear CE or US Coast Guard approved impact jackets.

6.6 The vessel must not be used in areas where this activity is prohibited.

6.7 Inflatable water sports toys used must be CE or US Coast Guard approved.

 

7 Some Rules

7.1 The minimum driving age for any driver is 18. At all times a nominated driver aged 25 or over must also be on board the vessel as skipper.

7.2 All persons on board the vessel must wear an approved CE or US Coast Guard buoyancy aid or lifejacket at all times.

7.3 A killcord must be attached to the driver at all times.

7.4 The alcohol and drug use rules for control of a boat are the same as for a car. We suggest you approach your day responsibly and do not drink at all.

7.5 There is no smoking allowed in any club boats.

7.6 You must know and abide by the maritime bye laws of Anglesey and Gwynedd. Gwynedd is represented by Caernarfon Harbour Trust. Copies of all bye laws will be provided at the start of membership and further copies are available by request.          

7.7 If there is a breach of bye laws or club rules members will receive a written warning. Membership will be cancelled with no refund in the event of any further breach.

7.8 Membership may be cancelled without notice or refund where the boat is used for an activity which is inappropriate or actually potentially dangerous.

7.9 Under no circumstances must the boat be left unattended.

7.10 The maximum number of persons on board at any time shall not exceed 8.

 

8 What if it all goes wrong?

8.1 Members will incur a damage excess of up to £1000 on any damage incurred during use. If the repair is less than this amount then that is all that will be charged. Please be aware that the club will use approved marine engineers only and all invoices will be produced upon request. Every effort will be made to keep costs to a minimum.

8.2 If members require assistance there is no charge if the cause is mechanical. If the call out is due to user error including going aground then the recovery fee will be up to £350 dependent upon the situation. If conditions demand then group members will be removed to safety.

 

9 What if I can’t make it for my booked day?

9.1 There will be no refund of points if you decide not to use a booked day. If the Marine Club needs to cancel your day then you will be given a full refund of points.

 

10 Questions

10.1 What if I want to join mid season? All members have 12 months from joining to use their allocation of  points. This means you can join anytime without being penalised for being early or late in the year.

10.2 What if I want to come back earlier in the day than I have arranged? Simply call Plas Coch at least 1 hour prior to your return and the bosun will meet you at the jetty.

10.3 What do I do if I need help? Call Plas Coch with a brief description of the problem. One of the Marine Club team will call you back with a solution.

10.4 How do I book my days? Simply call the reservation number provided when you join and your chosen dates will be allocated to you if available.
